S'il te plaît dessine moi une maison = If it gives you pleasure, draw me a house...

Paulo Brito da Silva

Architecture and design relate people to things in the context of the same collective memory. They are communication, text in a context, in a time and in a space / group. They are ways of doing that have become autonomous and separated in cultural construction.

Paradoxically, especially in “collective housing”, the possibility of designing a house for those who inhabit it is an unlikely coincidence. People take the space by its design, not by architecture. Inhabit could consist in arranging the elements and the pieces of architecture and construction, as convenient or according to the world .Those are the questions related with transformable architecture and standardization.

An architecture made by serial, transformable or evolutionary pieces is defined by the possibilities of combining parts, or by the hypotheses of building, contained therein- the design of houses systems.

With a standard brick it has always been possible to make the individual, the specific and the unique. More than the limits of the site or the use or the habitable space, it is important who joins pieces, who relates them to others or to places. When we have this awareness and when we can perceive the sites, the texts and the cultural contexts , we can do architecture or design. Perhaps it is in this sense that drawing a chair is like drawing a house.
