Inquietações com o sistema de defesa antimísseis na Europa

Resumo

Estará em curso uma nova época de Guerra fria? Os russos mostramse apreensivos quanto à hipótese de o sistema AEGIS e as novas iniciativas de dissuasão nuclear da NATO se estarem a posicionar visando a Rússia como alvo primário e não, de acordo com o discurso oficial norte-americano, o Irão ou quaisquer Estados-párias. Este texto argumenta que a NATO e os EUA ainda não deram suficientes garantias de que a Rússia não é o alvo dos novos sistemas, o que poderá levar a uma nova era de corrida aos armamentos e quiçá, proporcionar o ambiente propício ao desenvolvimento de uma nova era de Guerra-Fria.

Is a new Cold War being prepared? The Russians are concerned with the hypothesis that the AEGIS system and the new NATO initiatives being deployed are directed to Russia as a primary target and not Iran or any other rogue state, in accordance with the indications of the American authorities. This paper argues that NATO and the USA did not give yet any guarantee that Russia is not the target of the new systems, what can lead to a new arms race and maybe would develop the conditions similar to those of the Cold-war Era.
